The formula

What form of vitamin D does this contain?

This formula provides vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) sourced from wild lichen, one of the only natural sources that produces vitamin D3 the way our skin does, through exposure to UVB light.

Why does this formula contain vitamin K2?

Vitamin D plays a role in calcium absorption. Vitamin K2 (as menaquinone-7) sourced from fermenting non-GMO chickpeas is included to support normal calcium metabolism in the body*.

Why does this formula contain beef liver?

Desiccated beef liver is a whole-food source of naturally occurring vitamin A, specifically retinol, the active form your body can use directly.* Vitamin D doesn't work alone: its receptor has to pair with a partner receptor that vitamin A activates before your cells can actually respond to it. Without enough usable vitamin A, vitamin D's effects fall short even when blood levels look fine. Liver provides that vitamin A in the same active form your body would make from an animal source, not the beta-carotene form most people convert poorly.

Why does this formula contain coconut flesh oil?

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is normally consumed and absorbed alongside dietary fats. Coconut flesh oil powder is a stable, food-based source of fat included for this reason.

Allergen: contains tree nuts (coconut).

How does this formula differ from typical vitamin D supplements?

Most vitamin D supplements use D3 synthesized from lanolin, chemically converted sheep's grease. Ours is sourced from lichen, one of the only organisms that naturally produces vitamin D3 through sunlight, the same biological process as human skin. Our formula also contains fermented K2 from chickpeas alongside other nutrients commonly found in vitamin D-rich foods. This keeps our formula as close to nature as possible and supports the body's normal handling of nutrients.*

What testing does each batch undergo?

Every batch is tested by our manufacturer, an FDA-registered, cGMP-certified facility, for potency, ingredient identity, microbial safety (including Salmonella, E. coli and Staph) and heavy metals (mercury, lead, arsenic and cadmium). Each batch is then independently third-party tested for heavy metals and microbial safety. Certificates of Analysis and third-party lab reports are available on request.

What is MenaQ7®?

A branded form of vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7, produced by fermenting non-GMO chickpeas. Naming the branded ingredient is deliberate: it tells you which form of K2 you are getting and who made it, rather than leaving "vitamin K2" to cover a range of quite different forms.

Why lichen rather than mushrooms?

Mushrooms exposed to UV produce primarily vitamin D2. Lichen is one of the few non-animal sources of D3, the same form your skin makes in sunlight. Research suggests D3 raises and maintains blood vitamin D levels more effectively than D2.

What is the capsule made of?

Hypromellose, a plant-derived capsule material. It is listed under other ingredients along with rice flour and bamboo stem and shoot extract, which are the only non-active components in the formula. They are natural and necessary flow agents for manufacturing.

Does it contain gluten, soy or dairy?

None of our ingredients actively contain gluten, soy, or dairy. We're not certified gluten-free or allergen-free, so if you have celiac disease or a severe allergy, please check with your practitioner. We're happy to send you the full ingredient list.

Taking it

Do I still need vitamin D if I get plenty of sun?

It's different for everyone. Your body makes vitamin D from sunlight, and how much depends on your skin tone, where you live, the season, how much time you spend outdoors, and how much skin is exposed. Nutrient testing shows your individual vitamin D levels, so you know what you need instead of guessing.

Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Ask your licensed healthcare provider before starting any supplement while pregnant or breastfeeding. Although our ingredients are derived from real food, we are legally not able to advise on this.

Can I take it alongside medication or other supplements?

Check with your practitioner or pharmacist, particularly if you take anything affecting blood clotting, since this formula contains vitamin K2. That is a conversation for someone who knows your full picture rather than something we can answer here.

How should I store it?

Somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight, with the cap closed. Keep it out of reach of children, as with any supplement.
